Vajzë is the Albanian word for girl. Founded in 2016 by Valentina Juncaj, Vajzë was created to embody the multifaceted nature of a woman at any stage of her life. Valentina, an American national who was born in Montenegro to Albanian parents, experienced a unique blend of cultures growing up, which inspired her to reflect on and search for the qualities that all inspiring women have in common, no matter where they’re from.
Strong, yet sparkly. Fierce, yet feminine. Not only do these words describe the pieces that Valentina personally designed for Vajzë, they also describe the women who surrounded Valentina as she grew up. These were women who worked hard, took care of their families, and treated every social or family gathering as an occasion to enjoy and get dressed up for.
Recognizing the value in a community of women who raise each other up and celebrate each other’s lives, Valentina decided to take that idea and apply it to something she has always been passionate about: personal style. Whether worn solo or layered, Vajzë’s pieces invite women to express individuality, femininity and strength through style.
Vajzë not only empowers through jewelry and style, but also through social engagements and non profits, especially those which mentor and support women and girls in need.
All LILY FORBES pieces are produced with a fair trade production house in Delhi, India, employing women facing caste discrimination and providing health and educational services.
All LILY FORBES fabric is intentionally sourced, with the environment and worker-wellbeing at the forefront of decision-making. The cotton pieces produced to date are 100% hand woven by the Ali family (4 generations) outside of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. Heritage weaving is an important part of the local economy and history, and sadly, is a dying craft.
The Ali family weaves cloth specifically for LILY FORBES with fibers naturally dyed in a small, family-run, safe, clean facility in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The cotton threads are dyed by third generation natural dyer, Mahesh.
The silk pieces are AZO free and handwoven with a Fair Trade house in Bihar or produced from recycled/vintage silk.
Lily has visited all facilities she sources from to ensure production is completely transparent and ethical.
