About ILERA Apothecary:

ILERA Apothecary was founded by Chinonye and Nneji Akunne (a dynamic sister duo) with the mission of bringing transparency to the beauty industry by creating vegan and organic skincare products. Handmade in Detroit, Michigan with ingredients sustainably sourced in West Africa, ILERA Apothecary creates skin enhancing products that  make you feel confident knowing you are using the best ingredients on your skin and for the environment.

Born to Nigerian immigrants, the sisters developed a strong sense of pride for their Igbo roots at a young age. Inspired by their youngest brother who made a commitment to limit the use of non-organic personal care products,  Chinonye and Nneji travelled to their parents hometown of Awo-Idemili, in southeastern Nigeria to source the initial ingredients for their first batch of products.

The majority of the ILERA Apothecary product line includes “Okwuma”, the Igbo term for Shea Butter. Shea butter is a natural plant-based oil  that has been used in their family for generations, keeping their skin soft, vibrant and youthful. Each product and scent is formulated in-house using simple ingredients by the ILERA Apothecary team.
